This is the end result of "empowering the common man" through democracy. (I put the phrase in quotation marks because it really is quite impossible to "empower" those who are incapable of even coming close to understanding the world around them. All they can ever be are pawns of those who are skilled at manipulating them.)

And that is the vast majority of people - pawns is a generous description.
I read somewhere that most people dont have the mental capacity and/or the desire to make the considerable effort to understand the manipulation, who's doing it, and why. Telling them just makes them think you're lost your mind. Therefore, it is only possible to place the evidence in front of them in the plainest possible way.
To put it most succinctly, democracy empowers the manipulative and establishes a society of lies.
