Do you plan executing a multisig? A 2of2 or 3of3 is a good option for a lot of single sig users. You just have to keep your seeds with multiple backups and you don't need to worry about the configuration file that alot people allude to with multisig. Only if you have a 2of3 or 3of5, when the N of M doesn't match do you have to worry about the configuration file if you lose one of your seeds. Any multisig setup doesn't need the configuration file if you have all of the seeds used to setup the wallet. If you don't plan on executing a multisig, I want to know why not?

Upgrading from singlesig toa 2of2 multisig makes a lot of sense. 1 seed could be derived from a device you purchase, like foundation or Trezor. 1 seed could be derived from your own physical non digital entropy like the physical BIP39 word list. If you buy a seedsigner they give you the ability to roll 100 dice or use their camera to generate your own physical entropy. Essentially giving you two sets of 24 words, with each set having its own unique entropy & randomness during creation. You can then store this as you did your single sig setup, for example in a safety deposit box.

DO NOT DO THIS; you should never emply setups with a single point of failure (yes, a raw single key wallet is a single point of failure. Use a more logical, robust structure. 🤙

Why 2of2 multisig vs single sig with strong passphrase?

Choosing your own passphrase is not a standardized way of ensuring a secure wallet, entropy ✅. Creating two seeds with proper methodology provides peace of mind and redundancy. Tbh 3of3 is even better if you want to geographically separate your seeds between 3 secure locations with backups. For ex, you have 3 safety deposit boxes: You keep: Seed1 & Seed2 in Box A. Seed2 & Seed3 in Box B. Seed1 & Seed 3 in Box C. Backups: Seed1 exists 2x in both Boxes A&C Seed2 exists 2x in Box A&B Seed3 exists 2x in Box B&C Scenarios: Box A becomes corrupted. - Seed1,2,3 exists in Boxes B&C Funds are safe ✅ Box B burns to the ground. - Seed 1,2,3 exists in Boxes A&C Funds are safe ✅ Box C gets robbed. -Seed 1,2,3 exists in Boxes A&B Funds are safe ✅

You're wrong if you have multiple backups, which should be a given, there is no single point of failure. Always make multiple backups. singlesig, multisig, doesn't matter you need multiple backups. 3of3 is actually incredibly awesome. View quoted note →

Basically the passphrase isn’t as secure as a second seed. If I wanted to roll dice for words that had entropy compared to a seed it would be burdensome to enter. Rather having a second seed (or third in your example) is better entropy and security. Have a 2 of 2 or 3 of 3 mitigates needing the descriptor file. I’m been thinking a lot more recently about custody and a 2 of 2 or 3 of 3 isn’t really talked about out much, it’s mostly just 2 of 3 or 3 of 5.

256 bits of entropy is more than enough. You don't need the second and third seeds because you have insufficient entropy. You have it to protect against implementation failure.
