Yeah, basically. Martyrs have instant street cred and everyone is galvanized to make their sacrifice worthwhile. They must have been doing something right, to be considered so dangerous that you have to kill them.
Besides, the people who killed him now get to see the problem with making someone a martyr. Maybe they'll think twice, the next time.
But most of us already knew about him and have seen his videos. They were some of the most-popular videos on YouTube, even before he died. He's well-known, even in Germany. Especially, the campus debate stuff is classic.
It certainly shines a light on the message.
