I'm still trying to get nostr DMs to work, and OpenClaw keeps trying to push me to WhatsApp or Telegram. If anyone is inclined, making this smoother would be a big win for nostr.

I guess there are enough bots on WhatsApp and Telegram, we don't need them in our Nostr DMs too?
Somebody needs to finish the Nostr DM integration, add NIP-17 and remove NIP-04

I'm with you. I wasted most of Saturday and part of Sunday sending nostr/openclaw DMs into neverland. About to give up.
My bot build a tool for itself to send and receive NIP-17 DMs... or are you looking to control it via NIP-17 DMs?
