I've been poking at some security cameras. I may need to look into frigate instead of ZM. The undocumented RTSP is crazy to me. The best way to find cameras on your own network is to use on of the "find insecure cameras on the internet" hacking tools but ZM, and it sounds like Frigate, don't include one and the included discovery tools are crap.
I agree that it is WAY harder than it should be. I will probably be able to get it working but packaging nice for others and closing every edge case may be beyond my current skills.

I recently switch from ZM to Frigate and it's way better (and this is coming from someone who despises the complexity of Docker). No more dropped feeds, no more errors that I can't figure out within an hour of research. I don't even have the fancy stuff set up yet (object detection, lightning detection, etc.)
I'm coming around to docker. It isn't natural to me yet but I'm always pleasantly surprised how easy it is to set things up even though I felt confused the whole time.
How did you figure out your RTSP URLs?
