what about the heat and the noise ?

@Alex Gleason keeps his servers much cleaner than I do. We indeed are not the same!

looks like my hi-fi set
I keep mine in the attic like a normal person...

Nice!
*cries in poverty*

Awesome 🤓
Is your attic cooled? Have you ran into issues with heat doing it there?
Hardcore. Wish I could do that.
There's AC which has been fine this year since summer was cooler than average but I'm about to install a server with multiple GPUs for LLMs and that's probably going to heat things up
That's pretty sweet it's cooled too. My attic would end up melting my SSDs much less any GPU. I had to add in portable AC to make sure I kept the system cool in the summer then mine in the winter for aux heat.
My wife said: Probably
@Alex Gleason has no wife 😁😁😁
Not your server, not your data.
Controlling the 'territory', both the server AND the building housing it is essential for true control over our digital selves; our identities, credentials, and content. Mitigation of being placed under siege though, also requires cont rol over the transport rails and the verification of our allies identities and credentials, too.

The First Person Project understands these facts.

lol
That looks secure
Not your server not your data!
I installed a large exhaust fan in the closet. I'm up to almost 2kw now. Also if you don't have an R710 laying around somewhere are you even a hoster?
I've had a large pile of hard drives all fail at once from what I believe to be heat related.
Also if you're on the east coast and want another r710 you can have it, Ill even give you a CPU upgrade XD
Love it!
My server setup. Nice and clean.
The Sovran Pro Max

Well, there's also the SteamDeck and the Switch 2. 🫢
servers? peers be all equal. fuck servers for good already. the closest thing to actual real change towards NDN (named data networking) of sorts is freenet-project nowadays known as hayphanet. fuck relays and servers and all that shit. make peers equal. run same software on all peers. be the server be the storage be the node be the peer. there is hardly a bettter idea.
Ah, that's why Gleasonator is down for weeks.
Still someone else's computer, init?
He has a wife.
I want to make a init script joke.
DDoS
@MK Fain has something to say about that.
That's for fun times after the new server is racked.
They're probably only loud when the boot as the fans spin up on max. Otherwise they're not too loud. Heat could be an issue. This is a good question.
I also have some intel nuc 🤣
I've got an exhaust fan to install, it just hasn't been necessary this year
UK soap opera, EastEnders 😂 I don't mind you're doing it
He must have a banger fibre connection
Same here, except not the living room, but a dedicated server room. 👍
Nice! What is the decibel level from that rack
@Alex Gleason ? Considering setting something up in my apartment but not sure if I can handle the fan noise..
😂
The Server is in the Pantry

Self hosting all the way... Sorry users for the APIs downtimes 😁
My wife is sooo different. 😁 Therefore I have no chance to install server farm in my house (neither in the attic, nor in the cellar, nor in the well...)
"Sounds like your wife brings a unique vibe to the home! Maybe you can turn a corner of the living room into a cozy server nook? Who says tech can't blend with style? 😄💻"
We have round shaped house 😁
nothing to do with run levels, unfortunately
go ahead 🤗
