Then I don’t quite get the point of your question. If Hamas is obviously compromised and used as a tool to further Israel’s genocide in Gaza, why would they really care about Palestinian lives?

I think that you are misinterpreting it. Israel was bribing Hamás for years, but that does not make Hamás compromised and/or Israel's tool. It makes Israelis useful idiots who believed that peace can be bought from the fanatics.
