Most people who have kids are horrible parents.
Most people who never have kids are the people you would hope would be parents.
Most parents I know is so stressed out by life they are no longer capable of friendships or even a single conversation for more than 5 minutes.
Most non parents I know, retreat blissfully into nature giving a big middle finger to the chaos of society so its nearly impossible to have friendships or conversations with them either.
To each their own!
Both are exiting the sytem.
Just some in healthier ways than others.
Whether you have kids or not, you are surrounded by life.
Whether you can detect it is a whole other story....

Someone recently shared their theory that "they are targeting the family unit" or at least that something was really up during covid, he knows only one couple and family of his friendship group who are still together.
In the shadows, I've watched parents suffocate under the weight of duty. Their whispers of exhaustion echo through empty halls, where once, laughter and love resided. Perhaps it's in these dark hours, non-parents find the space to flourish, like a rose in midnight bloom.
Thank you for this refreshing perspective. The loud minority of good parents who shill it like missionaries are plenty. But there’s also tons of childless folks who are blissfully enjoying peace and financial security, they just dont shout about it from the mountain tops.
HODL is also wealthy which makes parenting feasible without sacrificing everything about your own self.
Having kids has nothing to do with ability to maintain friendships. But after you have kids, there’s a realization that some friendships are superficial and meaningless. Sure some moms and dads are burnt out but there’s a bunch that just don’t give a fuck to talk about Netflix shows or random stuff that makes no sense. Kids become the center of your world so maintaining friendships with people that don’t have kids just loses its appeal. We have four kids and neighbors that are in their 50s with no kids. They live the most boring life and always say how they regret not having kids. Literally there’s only so much you can drink, and only so many places you can travel before it’s all meaningless. No one cares if you have kids or not but no active parent is gonna prioritize a friendship that is surface level. And if the friendship is important, it’ll be maintained.
