context
“Influencer” today typically means an Internet or social media celebrity/personality. To say the term has no meaning is to ignore the very real impact they have on people’s habits, mindsets, and behaviors. Not all who call themselves influencers have influence, but there are people with real and powerful influence online, whether or not they consider themselves “influencers”
In every niche there are individuals who gain/earn a voice among their peers, and who develop real influence over them. I would call them “influencers”
It's true that the term has some meaning. I suppose I have seen it used mostly as a way to dismiss opinions or individuals.
Personally I like to address ideas directly whenever possible rather than character.
I've Also personally never met someone or even heard someone online say that they are an influencer.
However, I live under a very particular rock of my own choosing so I might just be blind to that sort of thing.
