*users* aren't really willing to figure out LN and aren't comfortable paying with it if they did.
but if they were
like you say, markets might run ecash mints.
then users, who are used to a custodial wallet that might rug them anyway,
would use a mint,
or a custodial node service like Rizful,
that makes sense for their usecase.

Yeah the users aren't gonna fuck around with any BS that isn't L1 or custodial. The DMN operators won't rely on a custodian either but would like to be the custodian for their users.
I dont think that's true.
Users are accustomed to depositing funds into custodial DNM wallets to make transactions. sometimes they do it straight from exchanges ๐ซ
if instead they could spin up a LN node
that they ostensibly control
immediately pay an invoice
and destroy the node
(or not, leave whatever is left in the channel for their next buy)
i can see it being a useful payment mechanism with fairly good UX and privacy
