Just got struck with my first Play Integrity issue on GrapheneOS. How long before custom ROMs on Android phones are effectively unusable?

Depends on the philosophy of the group. Graphene if I remember because of it's sandboxing isolation causes those issues. The whole being is to be total isolation from google. If you still need play services for any reason you should switch to calyxos & use microG.
