No creation dates, as we weren't around for most of the history of Nostr, and open time stamping is not popular

What would be a way to make OTS more popular, or even the default? Any ideas? CC nostr:nprofile1qqs9afryspzmk8ljyfj4mhfkumwwmhzrtyxzvzgvfp477w80g5x6t0gpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68ytnzv9hxgtcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qywhwumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnzd96xxmmfdejhytnnda3kjctv9uz87n0z
It's fundamentally expensive, so someone has to pay, and that's bad UX.
And it requires commitment at key creation, which is also bad because you want to try before you buy.
Also, key creation time doesn't give much guarantees of realness. Anyone could create a key named Apple Inc right now and name squat the real Apple
Expensive? I am confused.
I actually don't understand any of the points you are making.
The point of it would by that someone TODAY, can't start pretending to be someone who created his profile and starting posting 3 years ago.
I dont know what you mean by 'commitment at key creation'
Also, at the very least you could timestamp all the stuff you are collecting yourself🤷♂️
> Expensive?
Yes, I meant not free. Opentimestamps uses bitcoin transactions, which have fees, so someone has to pay. Now donations pay for it.
> I don't know what you mean by 'commitment at key creation'
That someone has to pay for opentimestamping, most likely when they create the key and publish their profile.
> The point of it would by that someone TODAY, can't start pretending to be someone who created his profile and starting posting 3 years ago
sure, that has some utility but it's not really easy to use to determine which is the "real" profile. For example in case of name-squatting or key rotations (e.g. Ben Arc multiple real profiles).
Dividing 1 bitcoin transaction fee cost by a million gives you your "not free" number. Its silly. Nothing is free, only the sun is free. I should be paying for every step i take in life if this 'not free' logic of yours would apply.
The more its used the 'cheaper' it gets, i really dont understand. Any argument for "cost" and perhaps "spam" are same for relays.
OTS is used in elections, you really think a couple of governments and business usecases is enough to bankroll OTS for the entire world for all the things at all time? Because i do, the napkin math on this is very comfortably mathing.

If nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z just turns on NIP-03 by default for everything we would already have this flow today. If the bigger relays would do this, we would have this flow today, if you would do this for every new kind0 you see, we would have this today.
Il send 5 bucks to nostr:npub1ej493cmun8y9h3082spg5uvt63jgtewneve526g7e2urca2afrxqm3ndrm to cover the next bazillion users.
Okay then you pay, fine
Considering that Peter asks periodically for donations, I doubt it's 5 bucks.
What are the running costs for OpenTimestamp nostr:nprofile1qqsve2jcud7fnjzmchn4gq52wx9agey9uhfukv69dy0v4wpuw4w53nqpzemhxue69uhkzarvv9ejumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgqg4waehxw309ajkgetw9ehx7um5wghxcctwvscxst82 ?
1 txn can commit to an unbounded amount of publeys.
So the cost effectively is 0. This could be easily funded by a few dollars of zaps/day.
