obviously having the author sign directly is best but short of that having a reputable archivist sign and broadcast messages in real time, in a format that is easy to store, distribute, and cross check is a pretty big win

"reputable archivist" - does archive.* not count there? I think to whatever extent we actually needed evidence for something, the cpof of the archiving entity is a big problem. (Maybe 1000 nostr archivers, all signing. That's something, but not if they all repost one guy, hehe) Mostly it's not much of a problem with news, events, because of global broadcast online. But the advent of convincing AI is going to bring this issue to the forefront soon, I guess.
