How FIPS Mail works — setup in a nutshell: Install FIPS — a mesh networking daemon that runs on your PC. It generates a Nostr keypair as your identity. Your npub becomes your address in the mesh. Connect to the mesh — FIPS finds other nodes via Nostr relays and connects directly, punching through NAT automatically. No VPN, no central server. Install Stalwart — a lightweight mail server that runs locally on your PC. It only listens on the FIPS network interface — invisible to the outside world. Your email address — is simply you@yournpub.fips. Anyone else on the mesh can send you mail directly, PC to PC, fully encrypted. Read your mail — with any standard mail client (Thunderbird, etc.) connected to your local Stalwart server. The result: No central server No provider that can read, sell or block your mail Your identity = your Nostr key Works behind any NAT, any router, anywhere
