But we have to solve the problem. I don't want these clowns endangering the most important thing on planet earth.

As far as I can see the best thing I can do is run knots for now and help people see why they might not want core 30. One thing at a time. I feel hopeful.
We must be willing to Softfork to prevent these abuse cases.
Its frustrating to see this pattern. The Good enters the world ; the bad copies and corrupts it ; the Good reacts too slowly ; the end result is very far from the original intent. If we just learned to react faster or stronger or be more proactive, we might get the maximal Good. I don't want half wins and mediocrity. I want the win.
Or hard fork. We could use the excuse to remove the segwit transaction fee discount, too.
To me everything is going perfectly and we have already "won". I just enjoy watching and being part of perhaps the biggest change in human history. Fearless.
That's because most people are evil, pretending they are not responsible for their own lives. Only responsible stewards are gonna safeguard Bitcoin to a high degree. This is why Luke is wrong about needing 85% of users to run a node and Mechanic is right that a much smaller number will do. We should be appealing to the most responsible, logical people by giving noderunners the respect for their autonomy and choice and capability to run responsible policies, and not expecting your everyday douchebag to know what's good for him.
Whatever it takes.
Hardfork not required, or desired.
Softfork can achieve all of the above, and remain backwards compatible.
