Last week, the people of Goma in eastern Congo were once again caught in a deadly cycle of violence. Rwanda’s ongoing invasion, through its support of armed groups like the M23 militia, has unleashed devastation on entire communities—displacing thousands, claiming lives, and destroying livelihoods. This is not just a regional issue. It is a war driven by the global demand for Congo’s vast mineral wealth, including cobalt, gold, and coltan—essential to our smartphones, electric vehicles, and other modern technologies. While the world benefits from these resources, the Congolese people pay the price with their lives. Rwanda’s exploitation of this conflict is leaving families in despair, fueling a crisis that rarely makes headlines but should demand global attention. It’s time to hold Rwanda accountable, demand transparency in the global supply chain, and support Congolese-led peace efforts. Don’t turn away. Congo needs the world to pay attention.
