It’s slow. There is a guy named Ian on YouTube who documented a few years in a row where SLF larvae never fully matured on common milkweed and their bodies were littered around the base of the plant. It appears the plant resembles a host plant so they do not leave. But doesn’t have the nutrition needed to grow to maturity. So yes, milkweed basically kills the spotted lantern fly.
