Your phone number is a terrible second factor. 📱
In a SIM swap, a scammer tells your mobile carrier to move your number to their SIM. Every text code sent to you now goes to them.
Three fixes:
1️⃣ Use an authenticator app or a security key instead of SMS codes
2️⃣ Ask your carrier for a PIN or port-out lock on your account
3️⃣ Remove your phone number as a recovery option where you can
Boring today. Priceless the day someone tries. 🧡

4️⃣ for places that won't allow you to remove your phone number as a second factor, you might also consider switching to a mobile provider such as #CloakedWireless, which does not allow their staff to make account changes.
Not possible. You need physical government issued ID.
