Could you explain what ‘Pokey’ actually is? The announcement assumes everyone knows the term, but there’s no obvious documentation. Does it rely on a persistent background service, polling, or some alternative to FCM? I’d also like to understand the battery impact and how it behaves when the app is fully stopped.

Anybody seen battery impacts?
Just some questions please: That’s only half the picture. Keeping WebSocket connections open explains how events arrive, not how Android allows that to run reliably in the background. Is Pokey a foreground service? Does it survive Doze mode?
Yep, it keeps a notification in the foreground + 15 or so about other little tricks.

There is no server. The phone just stays connected with your inbox relays

Hope so! :)
Will have a test. Graphene can be quite aggressive at closing download background apps.
