Primalβs trending algo is no longer easily gameable by bots. We implemented a new system based on web of trust. We will publish more details soon, but the high-level idea is to infer humanity of a pubkey based on its connections in the social graph. As always, full source code for this system is open and available in our repo.
Given this new capability, we removed everyone from the "can't trend" list. This means that every Nostr account is able to trend on Primal; they just need to post a note that produces genuine user engagement. We will monitor the results of this, but it is possible that a global "can't trend" list is no longer needed.
The best part: Primalβs trending feed got a whole lot better!

Thank you. This is the way π«π
Nice work!
Gotta explore it. On Damus mainly these days.
It looks like you didn't just take user feedback into consideration; you went above and beyond!
Great work! π
I need to give Primal another try someday in the future.
This is great!

I told you so. The Derek Beer Index is a force to be trusted. πΊπΊπΊ

Can it be disabled?
I dont use primal and will reserve my opinions, but I'm very glad to see you guys responding to the criticisms in what at least appears the best way possible. I wish you nothing but success, contingent on the validity of the improvements you have made, and in spite of me preferring to continue without algorithmic enhancement. A good algorithm could boost engagement for new users, so I hope this will be a benefit to us all.
Primal is my favorite client for scrolling. Thank you for improving it!
Amazing! Canβt wait for iOS update!

Trending is it's own standalone feed that doesn't alter your default following feed.

Nice! Will you plan to implement a "catch up" feature ?
To avoid being on nostr everyday but still read the biggest news. Say I want to read nostr every 2 weeks or once per month it would be very cool to list the most popular notes (zaps and/or likes) that I follow for a given period (last week, last 2 weeks etc...)
