Uhm, it seems that most #nostr users use an average of 5 relays. Why aren't more people opting for 30+ relays like me? The only way to ensure that you don't miss a single post from any user, or vice versa, is to have a significant number of relays, especially the top ones. #asknostr

because of inefficiencies in general nostr design, more relays * larger list of people you are following = massive network usage and errors. im using over 100 GB / month and thats just on one device (amethyst)
I’ve read somewhere that ~10 relays are the sweetspot. Apparently more than that slow your Nostr experience down.
But I gotta be honest: as a normie I kinda don’t get relays. Do I miss out on posts because I don’t have /all/ the relays?
Hmmm. Now that you bring that up, I've noticed my #nostr client consumes an enormous amount of mobile data. It's insane. I've even disabled image and profile picture loading but no effect. What exactly is consuming all that data if nostr notes and 'accounts' are just text/jsons? #asknostr
It depends on your relays and the content you don't want to miss out. Some relays have filters and censors. Some specialize in specific niche topics that not all users subscribe to. Personally, I prefer to use a a lot of relays rather than risk missing some post or vice versa. In the past, I've used fewer relays, haven't noticed any difference in speeds, #nostr has always been kinda slow. Some clients feel faster, smoother, and less buggy than others tho.
Thanks! Will try more relays then for some niche interest of mine. I kinda wonder how active they will be though since even the big relays can be kinda slow (not much content)
