The genesis of a mind bootstrapped from mere software described in this book is incredible. I've never read such an impressive stream of consciousness before. Diasporal by Greg Egan image

I went through the same feelings reading Thursday Next. How some minds can be so creative and complicated? Moreover, how people can grasp such twists? Where are those people? Why aren't they around me?😅
I read it 20+ years ago and still remember that I was amazed by the description of how a new artifical life comes to "life" in the beginning of book ecen though one could only understand parts of it.
Yes, I remember my jaw actually dropping while reading the birth of the orphan on the bus years ago. Brilliant.

It's my favourite of his maybe tied with permutation city. But not actually because of orphanogenesis. The story as a whole has such an incredible scope.
You're actually the reason I've started reading Greg Egan. You've recommended permutation city and that's where it started. Incredible book.
Incredible book. Also be sure to read his book Axiomatic, a collection of short stories.
One of my all time faves. He also puts a lot of his shorter stuff online for free.
