When only 1% of people could read and write, they could communicate in a way in which the other 99% could not participate. Right now, less than 1% of people in the world are comfortable with Public/Private key identity. Those that couldn't read and write found it difficult to own property as they couldn't read the contracts. They had to rely on third parties for verification. Those that haven't yet learned about private keys rely on platforms to verify the identities that they do not own. The digital content that they publish or purchase is owned by the platforms. Everything on platforms is rented, everything on Nostr is owned. Without private property there is no freedom. The good news is that learning about private keys is much easier than learning to read and write. So the emancipation of the serfs in the digital space might happen a whole lot quicker than it did in the physical space. The internet is a revolution much like the printing press was. And we are just getting started...
