What are the implications of profile only zaps? Besides the extra steps needed to complete a Zap, this cripples the entire Zap experience because Damus users that choose to profile Zap will not have those Zaps counted towards the individual note's tally. The value of a note will be perceived less than it's true value. The note creator will no longer be able to have a live indicator of which of their pieces of content is valued most by their followers. Zaps are a form of feedback and this is now being robbed from all users on Nostr. We can all still Zap and the value is still there and received, but the feedback functionality of Zaps is now hindered.

I just still don't get how it's buying content. If you read the content before the zap
Nostr > #Apple
There are many other clients on other OSes
I think profile zaps will still be zaps (and not lightning tips). On Damus it will strictly be shown only on the profile of zapped user, but I think on other clients it can be shown with the note.
Atleast that's what I understood from what Will had mentioned - we'll probably see once it goes live
Same.
"Zaps are a form of feedback and this is now being robbed from all users on Nostr"
All users on nostr? Nope! This apple user mentality. Only they exist in their minds. Lol.
Get an android and get over it. Vote with your money! Why continue to support such a restrictive product???
Incorrect. If a Damus user Zaps my profile right now instead of this note, I do not get feedback from them that they valued this note. You need to think of the larger picture here. Damus is one of the most popular Nostr clients. It hurts all users of this protocol to have their feedback silenced.
Damus and its users are willingly submitting to being "robbed" and "silenced"

What if the lightning wallet were to let you zap sats by pasting in a #Nostr noteID? They would probably be anon zaps, but better than zapping the profile. @jb55 @Wallet of Satoshi
Hmm. The Zap would then come from the wallet and not the user as the wallet cannot sign a transaction for you. But that would allow the Zap tallies to grow if the wallet was doing the Zapping with a copy and pasted noteID. That's a lot of heavy lifting to do though. It's probably not worth the effort.
Oh got it, bc the zap is a signed event. Even anon zaps?
Anon Zaps still update the tally count so they need to sign some sort of transaction, but I'm not certain how they stay anonymous. Someone else will have to chime in there.
It's still tallied towards the note, Damus just doesn't show it.
How? Zap isn't performing the Zap on the note.
The note id is passed on to the profile view and added as a tag. So on the network, it's still a note zap. Damus just doesn't show it as such.
