I'd say, maybe he failed in the first one short term.. Mid-term, the US wanted to leave so bad, but got sucked in again because other forces were at play.
I do see the US having one more war in the region (in person, not through Israeli masters). Not sure where though. From there their ability to stay and/or come again will be significantly reduced.
