My 20-yo washing machine broke down. Having looked at the reviews of modern models, I decided to call a repair specialist first. The quality is significantly different - judging by the reviews, inexpensive modern washing machines work without problems for 3 years, if you're lucky. Then you definitely need to repair either the pump, or the bearings, shock absorbers, or the motor.

good call!
The repair (pump replacement) took half an hour and cost $60. The repairman also told me how to fix a small leak from the detergent intake tank. I took it apart, sealed it with sealant and it was done. It was worth it!
