Pick your future. I'd estimate, if things keep going the way they are, that CBDC's are 2-5 years out for most western countries. They will be launched for those dependent on the gov. at first (welfare/social security aka those who can't say no) and then moved into general use soon after. Progress will be faster if UBI (universal basic income) is implemented. Either way I'd estimate that cash is removed within 10-15 years. *obviously, times are guesstimates, just thinking out loud, but probably not that far off.
To me, BRICS gives off a pretty decent bancor style vibe (Mandibles, if you haven't read it). BTW, The Creature from Jekyll Island is a great book that explains central banking and the people behind it (There is an 8 hour abridged audio book version free online for those want to get the major points).

thanks for the references. I'm aware of Weztler's "A history of the FED" a huge book, I haven't read it yet but I'll be listening to this before.
