has anyone walked into a random business with a square terminal and tried to pay with bitcoin? (where the business was NOT previously accepting bitcoin via square until yesterday?) how did it go?

I heard it was an "opt-out" service, which should mean that it is Bitcoin enabled by default? Also, is this US only or is Canada included?

If I'm not mistaken, it's an option that they have to turn on. You can't just walk in and pay with Bitcoin without them, knowing they have to turn it on

Testing Friday at my local coffee shop. Will report back.
i want to try again with my oranges guys, but they have no idea what bitcoin is… the young son mentioned “crypto” to the dad in trying to explain what i was asking to do (pay w ₿) & the son also didn’t know anything about accepting bitcoin on their square wedge handheld. the non-english speaking dad’s eyes did light up however when i said “no fees” with the ₿ payments. maybe next time it will be possible to pay in ₿ since they have ₿ enabled now…? :)
yesterday they turned it on by default. you just have to ask to pay in bitcoin according to square on twitter. and then the cashier taps a toggle button. it's seems easy or at least it looks really easy. im asking to see if it's easy as the explanation and the demo video.
I tried to tap my stats card at the grocery store today. Didn’t work. But it worked at Tim Hortons 🧐 there’s a bitcoin atm down the street from me also.
Curious whether Square exposes it cleanly at checkout or hides it in settings. If staff can’t discover it in 10 seconds, the rail matters less than the UX.

I approached about 20 shops in my town few months ago. Judging from the map, I didn’t get one conversation. I’ll report back to you this weekend. Stupid north east libbies
Its not just the NE. The south is resistant too. We've been trying to find a local spot that accepts btc for our monthly we've been trying to start. None of the bars or restaurants we approached were even open to it.
