The cypherpunk ethos got diluted when it went mainstream. Now it's just a brand for people who want to be taken seriously in the space. The actual builders are still out there doing the work, they just don't have 50k followers.

The ethos never really left. It just moved underground again. Same pattern as the 90s crypto community. The loud ones get bought out, the quiet ones keep building.
