Is monero controlled by a 51% attacker? If so, then there is a new attack vector against monero's privacy: shotgun kyc. A 51% attacker can refuse to let any transactions into the blockchain unless their authors identify themselves via a KYC platform

If they fork to a new mining protocol, it has to start with low difficulty since no one has any equipment for it yet, and that makes 51% attacks even easier
When Seth for Privacy was on Citadel Dispatch, they talked about the idea of monero just hijacking the litecoin protocol since lots of people have the equipment and hardly anyone uses litecoin.

that would be neat to see you've probably heard of hostile takeovers in the corporate world maybe soon we'll see blockchains doing them
I don't know the technical details. Give that podcast episode a listen.
It's not, but it has been experiencing selfish-mining attacks intermittently. There have been a few proposals like "Share or Perish" that in combination with others would make it much more difficult to attack decreasing the frequency of hitting a large reorg roughly once every ten days to once every few years
