Many have noticed a sharp increase in paid Lightning spam lately.
Opinion is divided - some love the free sats, some hate the constant notifications and spammy messages. In any case it's an interesting development in the ecosystem! ⚡️
We have just implemented a change on our server to detect payments that are likely spam. You'll still get the sats and can look at the messages in your payment history if you want, but this should help minimise unwanted system notifications starting now! 🙏

Constant notification is a user problem, most of the phone/pc software allow to disable that feature, and it's good for mental health.

It’s always nice seeing Sat’s what feels like every day lately coming in. I don’t mind seeing notifications saying Sat’s received. Unless it’s like 1,000,000 Sat’s though I mightn’t be delving into what it is too often though 🤓 (Cue a load of 1,000,000 Sat Zaps… ⚡️⚡️⚡️🤓
with obvious ponzis being advertised this is the right move.
while self custody is still a minefield for newbies and some think adoption at all costs is worth it, this is precisely an object lesson in why it's better for technical people to be the focus of this stage of development, and influencoors to consider the danger they are creating by putting "go self custodial" as a headline and not considering how many sats the LSPs might hit you for, or the not so infrequent occurrance of stuck payments getting stuck for days, even over a week.
we can't have mass adoption of beta grade tech without blowback, and we can't have it without custodians protecting the safety of users funds.
think more carefully about what you say about the custodial lightning wallets and mass adoption. they are there precisely in order to facilitate mAsS aDoPtIoN. that's what you get when you try to push beta tech to the public.

Notification configuration should be very granular, letting the user decide (of course having some defaults) what fits them best.
They could choose to batch notifications every day or hour or something.
Or notify for single-payments over X sats and batch others.
UX is becoming more and more important, we are far from the beta testing geeks and into the mainstream now.
perhaps the notification supressing could be variable for each user based on the sats amount
yeah, receiving 1000000 sats for free or even every day is annoying 😄

Server side censorship is not the best idea. I would prefer to have a client setting that is the minimum sats (or SATs per character) that a message must pay to trigger a notification.
How about you make an adjustable threshold for notification.

I don’t have notifications on there zap shows on here. I love getting random ad zaps. Best advertisement if you get paid
