You don't need money to be decentralized per-se, nor to be digital.
In the #Bitcoin case it needs to be decentralized and digital to be trustless, not to be money.
That is how I think about it at least π€ π«‘ π«

Thanks for the comment, great points. Just curious vs gold and the advantages for humanity.
Bitcoin being digital is a huge advantage when considering international trade, especially vs gold. So I do think the digital aspect is a huge plus when it comes to monetary properties.
I agree that trustless and decentralized go hand in hand. Maybe I am a bit biased, it is true that they are not necessary for trade per se.. I do believe these properties set a new standard to offer Humanity a money is fair for all and cannot be coopted though. These properties assure a "Money" that serves all of humanity instead of a minority. That's how I see #Bitcoin π§‘β¨
