I like the sound of that. How do you access the data from your phone? Is it a good experience despite Tor?

I use Proton Drive. It is developing nicely.
Oh yeah it’s awesome. Anywhere in the world I just fire up Orbot or Tor Browser on my phone, click on the shortcut on my Home Screen to the Tor address of my server login, enter the username and password, and I’m in. Browsing files on my server on my desk at home. And you can set up shared folders and time limited access for others.

Cloud means just another person's computer. Don't trust.
I’d highly recommend also saving all of your important stuff on an encrypted external USB drive kept offsite in a secure location. That way you don’t lose everything if your SSD on your server packs it in.

Mostly SFTP/NFS mount back to my NAS at home over Tailscale. But I also sync NAS that to Mega as a backup.

Yes on a VPS i used the install scripts they provide in the vm repository..
You run it on a fresh installed vm and it not only installs nextcloud and database but also does u bunch of other important stuff like set up ufw and fail2ban...
