Notification beats scanning as long as the notification arrives. A dropped event or an offline relay turns into a payment the recipient cannot see, so the rescan path has to stay as fallback. The other half is key hygiene. If the address is the identity npub, every incoming payment ties to the social graph, so a dedicated keypair per address is worth the cost.
