No you just buy one of these off eBay and hook it up to your home network. In 2025 these machines are widely available and cheap enough, while home internet in the US (including most cable plans!) are actually fast enough to support medium to high traffic websites. Just install Proxmox on them and Terraform (or Tofu for more freedom) works great, and you've just cut out the middleman and saved a ton of money. Sent from my server rack.
I have that book marked, but i just run s9 inside proxmox for easy resizing volumes. Tbh if something doesnt run on s9, im not going to run it. As a devops engineer by day, im not fucking around with unpaid labor even if its for myself lol. If my boomer parents can't run it, im out.
😂 I also shutdown all my home servers when I was a devops engineer. That job was not easy.
