Tether is good for providing the 3rd world more efficient ways to move money that will keep them out of banks & ultimately promote use of Bitcoin infrastructure. It will contribute to lightning liquidity & will make adoption of (swaping to) Bitcoin as a tool for saving a much simpler process. It is incredibly conservatively managed & the revenue is being used to fund development of keet & other p2p infrastructure. Tether is a way to move people who have no idea that they need Bitcoin closer to Bitcoin without them knowing.
