I had to detox for a whole year once because I used to get horrible migraines on after working 5 days in the office with basically a free caffeine mainline drip and then sleeping in on Saturday. It got to a point where I was missing whole days with friends and family, so I knew I had to fix it. After a year, I was finally able to slowly add caffeine back and manage my intake properly and have had almost no migraines since then.

I tried cutting it out before and it didn't go well but switching to green tea instead was enough to take the edge off but I drank twice as much green tea as I did coffee. That all ended and I'm back to mainlining caffeine again.
