At the appeal hearing for Roman Sterlingov, who was convicted of operating the bitcoin mixer Bitcoin Fog, circuit judges are repeating the same argumentation brought by SDNY against Roman Storm: "Every payment [to Bitcoin Fog] is part of advancing the conspiracy because it increases the size of the pool of bitcoin funds that are shuffling around and obscuring identities.“ The defense argues that mixers are legal, to which the judge counters: yes, but not Bitcoin Fog.
