The challenge here is that many reach a false high of knowledge. They break out of the system and go knee-jerk contrarian.
The whole meme of blue pill vs red pill assumes there is some clear higher truth.
Remember, Morpheus who presented the red pill so assuredly to Neo, was utterly confused and in doubt by the end of the second movie, when it turned out that even his understanding was but a middle layer toward the truth.
