It's not a hardhork (adding extra stuff, changing the chain completely) but a soft one (one year), restricting some parts. @Matthew Kratter with his short (10-15 min) videos may also help you understand the topic. The thing is however that this fight isn't new, and won't finish anytime soon, but the next steps the majority takes can decide on the future of the best form of money humanity ever had. Bitcoin isn't some magic, its layer 0 (the base) are the people, if they fail, well... soon you may not be even able to afford running your own node 😅
