I know I'm getting this or the AYN Thor, but I'll need to see a hands on for the Thor first.
I just don't know if I want something THIS big or not.

I want one, kind want to retire my 3DS. The problem of it being too big is very common among modern portables.
Yeah. The 3DS is pretty peak, and it's crazy how great of a console it still is. It still impresses people I've shown who've missed out on it, and kids I watch over see it as some lost piece of advanced technology. LOL
What's coming out lately does seem to be getting bigger and bigger. My Retroid Pocket Flip 2 is pretty great in my pocket though.
I'm out traveling and it's been pretty sweet to have. The only thing I'm noticing is I wanted all this power, but when I'm out and about I mostly play sprite consoles like Game Boy Color or Super Nintendo.
Android on the device is so nice though. It's great to side load apps for content or using my device for Netflix, which is better than my phone because of that hinged screen.
I think everyone should take the DSi and the Switch Lite as the standard for portability. I know that with portable PCs you can’t really shrink them much, but I don’t feel comfortable walking around with those huge devices on the street (maybe for travel), I prefer my portability to be small. I’m even thinking about picking up a PS Vita Slim, because it looks great despite the drifting issues and the worse screen. For phones I would only go back to playing on it if I buy a nice controller like the Elo Vagabond, I'm really picky with my controllers lol.
As far as size GPD seems to get it right. There's a premium on their prices though!

For the phones. I've heard good things about the Gamesir G8's. I haven't tried it myself, but I've gifted one to a friend who says he liked it.

Wow, that really looks like a Vita 👀. Yeah, it’s a bit too pricey for me, maybe in the future. Gamesir makes great controllers, they have some really nice ones in their lineup
