In rejecting kings the key to understand is this: Do you understand the difference between a grasshopper and a locust? Google and do understand it. Locusts can only have a better or a worse king. None is impossible. Grasshopper can have no kings. In most of the world, but especially in the western (Europe centered) culture people are locusts, and have been such with no exceptions for more than 2000 years. Of course, it is better to be a grasshopper, I think we are starting the journey in that direction, but it will still take quite some time. You could say the true true otcoiners are there already, but still in a very hostile environment. So only the exceptionally smartest and strongest can really feel and enjoy the ultimate independence. It is like North Korea is trully independent, but the very dependent somebody like Denmark or some rich island somewhere, probably still feels more independent while it actually is not.

We reject kings, presidents and voting. We believe in rough consensus and running code.

Just saying, being realistic about the short term expectations gives extra happiness at zero extra cost or effort. I only mean be happy with what you achieved but surely do not slow down the fight. Happiness actually gives extra strength for the fight and better decisions. Lazyness always gives dependence and unfreedom.
Responsibility - true, but you must also be strong/smart. If you are a grasshoper on a planet thickly settled by organized cannibal locusts with their evil kings, you have no chance of surviving unless you at least partially play by their rules (i.e. their king is your king), or you are super smart to trick and evade them all the time, or stronger than all of them together and can say GFY.
