They and the airline already have the scans of your face so I’m not sure what good it does exactly but I always opt out. It’s shocking the masses of people who don’t even give it a thought and go right along with it. 😕
I smile and say “I’m going to opt out.” They often look surprised, but only for a moment. They know the drill.

once when boarding a plane with my entire family(with very small children) they told me if we wanted to opt out. I’d have to bring someone over to do a manual security check. I said if that’s what they wanna do, but I wanna opt out. And then another agent said just let em go through and they let us.
