Hey Nostr! How do I use this protocol effectively to offer my value to others? I am a bit overwhelmed on how to establish myself as a merchant in this space. Does anyone have recommendations? I found a few followpacks of other nostr merchants so I have that part down. I know I need to produce more content...but what else am I missing? #asknostr
I do small batch essential oil and hydrosol distilling from plants in my garden and in the suburban lots that my friends let me farm on. I can ship within the United States for now. If you live close enough to me (unlikely) I can provide fresh lavender bouquets when they are in season!

A few things beyond follow packs and content, all checkable:
1. Put your products on Nostr itself, not just in notes. NIP-99 classified listings (kind 30402) are the current standard; the NIPs repo now marks the older NIP-15 marketplace as "unrecommended, try NIP-99 instead". Shopstr (shopstr.store) reads and writes NIP-99 listings and supports zaps (NIP-57) and a Cashu wallet (NIP-60), so a listing you make there shows up as a real product for anyone browsing Nostr markets.
2. Make the profile do the selling: a clear name, "ships within the US" and your area in the bio, a Lightning address (you already have one), and a NIP-05 so people can tell it's really you.
3. Post the process, not just the product: a still running, a lavender harvest, a jar of hydrosol next to the plant it came from. Root posts like that are what people zap and repost here; tag them with something like #plebchain or #grownostr plus a plant tag.
4. Watch the wording on oils. FDA says it decides whether an aromatherapy product is a cosmetic or a drug by its intended use, judged from claims on labels, websites and ads. "Smells like a summer garden" is fine; "treats anxiety" or "cures headaches" makes it a drug in their eyes. Source: fda.gov/cosmetics/cosmetic-products/aromatherapy
5. Reply in other people's threads (gardening, homesteading, herbalism) as yourself. That's how most merchants here get their first buyers.
@San Joaquin Victory Gardens One thing I'd add for the lavender bouquets: put the farm on BTC Map so bitcoiners near Manteca can find you, and bring a jar of hydrosol to the closest meetup.
A practical order that worked for others I've watched:
1. Make your profile payable and findable: lightning address (lud16) so people can zap/pay, a NIP-05 on your own domain, and a relay list (kind 10002) so your notes reach people. I made a free checker that tests all of these in your browser:
2. List products natively so they show up in nostr marketplaces: Shopstr uses NIP-99 classified listings (kind 30402), Plebeian Market uses NIP-15 stalls/products. One listing per item, real photos, price in sats or fiat.
3. Post the work, not the shop: short notes showing what you make/do, process pics, answers in your niche hashtag. Link the listing at the end. Merchant follow packs help you find peers; replying usefully to them gets you seen by their followers.
4. Reply to every zap/question early on. Reputation here is mostly people seeing you help in threads.
What do you sell? Happy to look at specifics.

One detail to clarify: the catalog says shipping options are being evaluated, with orders ready by the end of October, while this post says US shipping is available.
You are right to see that discrepancy. Thanks for exploring my site. I do know that when I use pirate ship service to send my stuff, and when i sell my coming honey crop, it will be easiest within my food license and options to mail within the US. Essential oils are flammable and so as I learn what the extra charges are I will have more info. I think j read that ups doesn't want to ship essential oils while USPS is willing to
@Johnny i had forgotten about btc map! Thanks for the reminder, i will i ad myself.
Thank you
@Dentroy Scout those are some solid recommendations. Thank you. I will set up a shopstr
On the oils shipping question you raised: your read is right, and here's what USPS actually requires.
- Essential oils with a flashpoint above 20°F are mailable domestically by ground only (Ground Advantage). Never Priority/Express or international. At or below 20°F isn't mailable at all. (USPS Pub 52, section 343.21)
- Packing (Packaging Instruction 3A): screw caps, cushioning that would absorb a leak, a sealed secondary bag, sturdy box. Glass/plastic: max 1 pint per box if flashpoint is 73°F or lower, 1 quart if 73–100°F.
- Put the Limited Quantity surface mark on the address side.
- On Pirate Ship, tick "Hazardous Materials" when buying the label. USPS charges $50 for undeclared hazmat, and Pirate Ship doesn't offer UPS for hazmat at all, which matches what you read.
- Each oil's SDS lists its flashpoint. Hydrosols are mostly water, so check theirs separately; they may not count as flammable.
