I've faced a 20 to 40 (charges dropped thankfully) and 5 to 10, which I plead to. There is nothing more terrifying than the prospects of years in prison. Even one day seems like an eternity. I fault nobody for ever pleading guilty, even if they arent. The system dont care, and in the case of Samaurai, those two were being made an example of so there was zero chance of a fair trial.

Yes, do you think it will change? Lots of people on NOSTR think BTC and cryptography will make the system outdated and eventually it will disappear. Do you agree? I want to know what your perspective is since you've actually seen firsthand what limitations an individual has against the entire bureaucracy.

'The system' will imprison and kill whoever they need to. Btc isnt a threat. Its embraced by that same system it was supposed to fight, and too many are fine with that so long as NGU. Samaurai, Tornado Cash, Ulbricht, etc, are all examples of what is to come for others. Wait until self-custody and running a node is a crime, and they will be. They will use the 'unlicensed money transmitter' argument. And nostr is not a threat either. The fed Dorsey threw a lot of money around so whoever took some, well, nothing is free.
