Why has OpenSats not actively moved to remove NVK? His recent activity and reaction to this terrible situation shows a lack of character and that he should not be trusted. If OpenSats does not move to remove him, that implies, IMO, that they condone the avoidance of accountability. (That has been obvious to me for years at this point... But I digress.) Remove NVK. It's a simple, corrective measure that needs to occur.

I understand you can get a tax deduction by donating to open sats so maybe that’s better if you are a big fish. But why wouldn’t someone just send sats to individuals if they wanna contribute to their select projects
Yes, but the network effect issue is in play. It's been reeeeeally harsh on some people getting rejected. And it seems obvious that there are a huge conflicts of interest and have been for years. 🤷‍♂️
OpenSats is not some massive corporation with a 24/7 workforce There is a board, they will meet, they may or may not decide to discuss removal or NVK (or he may voluntairly step down), and a vote process may be required. This takes time. At this time there is still active firefighting to understand and have plebs secure their sats shouting at a nonprofit org that has no association with this mess except they have one person who is on the board is really not a productive use of time and energy Beave Give OpenSats their time to engage in a process, stop pushing for cancel culture andan hunting one person who you dislike
Nah. The board only needs a quorum to boot someone for misconduct, usually. (I haven't read their bylaws, but... That's pretty effing standard for nearly any corporate articles of incorporation.) They could also publicly state that they will be holding a meeting to do that, and, that would suffice for now, given that doing investigation can take some time and they have people from all over the world. But also... Would you not want to distance yourself from the mess he's created and is only making worse?
Give it a few days, you can't expect a public statement less than 24 hours since a 0day like this. I am just advocating for patience with the non profit that is OpenSats Coinkite on the other hand should been making public statements and fixing the firmware for current users of coldcards. Which they are if I am not mistaken. Still a fucked situation, but an OpenSat statement or booting of a board member is not a priority IMHO
Sure. That's ok. But what isn't ok is not is the outsized market distortion that people like GIGI and NVK have and do have. I have issues with that for a wife variety of reasons. I know my opinion doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things, but... I think I'm right and this incident is a data point in my favor.
Gigi is a big chunk of the problem. All the OpenSats board is. Him having a hard time lately is directly, IMO, abandoning principle for leverage. He's been trying to turn us into more without using moral means. Again, that's just my opinion. I don't follow it care all that much about Gigi and NVK except that it is time to hold all of that crew to account. There is no allowance for the benefit of the doubt going forward.
He's had a very hard time in his personal life, but he shouldn't be bowling alone. Everyone tries to save on staff and ignore the downsides to being chronically understaffed.
I mean I guess it depends. Wikileaks fundraised a shit ton of money. And with bitcoin it’s so easy to just peer to peer donate
You might not, but I do. That whole crew is suspect. I have no issues trusting people. I have issues with people who abuse that trust and start thinking that they *deserve*that trust. That's when things start to get twisted. That happened a long time ago.
thinking you deserve trust is an interesting paradigm to call into question... i would agree that to be nvk's folly. i have great issues trusting people. why this situation lands all the shittier. sounds like we differ on our who.
Geez. Are you really that naive? Who butters their bread? Who pushes sats to easily controlled useful idiots? (My opinion, don't take that too seriously.) All of them. They outright reject worthy projects without any accountability or openness about the process. And, this is way bigger than just OpenSats.
So what? Two days is more than enough to see the character of NVK. He's been a douche and is being a douche. He needs to be removed. Now. Without any further consideration.
