Open source doesn't mean sit on the sidelines and complain to devs until they do what you want. You can literally just send them a PR and many times if the idea fits with their project they will accept it. Some devs will even see your PR and even if it's bad just go make a better implementation of what you were trying to do. Be nice to devs, ask don't demand, give them time. There is a lot of little things they have to think about that you don't even consider. If you don't know how to code and or have no interest in trying to send a PR then kindness and patience goes a long way. Remember most devs aren't getting paid to do this.
