Just thinking about numbers... So the biggest magic internet money conference is underway, attracting some big names from the world's of politics, finance and business plus tens of thousands of everyday people... A V4V music event takes place as part of it. A band performance brings in 450,000 sats, approx $370 in zaps. I don't know if musicians are on splits for the door/bar income or getting a fixed fee from the promoter for their labour but I sincerely hope so as $370 split between a band isn't great. I really dig the idea of V4V and I sincerely want these type of events to work for all concerned, be that headline artist, promoter, sound/lighting techs, bar staff, everyone involved. Now you could say 'we're so early' but not so early not to have the president of the USA and the head of the FBI speak at these events. It's a long way from Andreas Antonopoulos speaking to an empty hall. Respect to all those trying to make a change for the industry, it is pretty corrupted in all kinds of ways but if I were a musician, travelling all the way to Las Vegas, playing to a packed hall, and I got $95 I'd be pretty disappointed and probably unable to pay the bills when I got home. Hopefully there's more to this arrangement and that 450,000 SATs is a bonus on top of a fair fee... Putting on music events is expensive and hard work, by the time you account for travel arrangements, acomodation, promotion, taxes, management fees etc. etc. what seems like a big headline number dwindles into not much for the players on stage. I don't know the runnings of the gig, if it was ticketed or if the musicians also got a fee but on those numbers I really hope so. Big up all involved. I hope it covered your time appropriately.

To add on... Now seeing some videos and clearly folks aren't playing to a packed hall, so apologies for that. Much love and respect to all trying to make a difference but still want to give those working outside of music some context to the numbers involved. Hope everyone can pay their bills this month!
I have no personal connections within the scene, nor am I involved in concerts or live events in any way. So I can only offer an outside perspective, as a recording artist in the Valueverse, so to speak. But in my view, simply being a V4V artist is far from guaranteeing any income. It's music so it's still entirely about subjective taste. As a supporter of the scene and the idea, I might gladly send a few Sats now and then, but whether the music truly resonates with me and loosens my purse strings is a completely different story. I think the V4V scene is currently more of a small, close-knit community where a few Sats circulate. It will be some time yet before (a few) V4V musicians reach a significantly larger audience that is willing to pay. In other words, we're still very early. 😬
Yeah I don't think it works well in this scenario but I like what @New Music Nudge Unit has been doing with adding V4V to small local shows. As really like what @boo-bury has been doing with the Spotlights and Skirmish's where we just broadcast acts from a home studio or practice session so it lowers the cost for them. There's definitely a lot of flexibility here we just need to see what works in the end.
I agree, there's grass roots stuff and Aaron's been doing a wicked job creating V4V events here (and totally building from ground zero) and see what yourself and others are putting out there. And agreed Boo-Bury too, I was a bit gutted I couldn't participate in what Hash Power Music did earlier in the year with the streams and live show in Austin but it was tough with travel commitments with my main gig. I think I'm really thinking about how we value music, especially withinin an area with rediclous amounts of capital in the viscinty and the musicians are getting the kind of money they'd get playing a little local space. It is what it is... but then again, all the coolest shit always happened in the indie/underground world.
Indeed... I'm here for it, looking to explore the potential and interesting that the big crowds are there for the financial engineering more than anything else.

Any interest in performing a set for BTWTS sometime?
