Multiple people agreed with me on performance and battery drain in the past. Features you got, now its time for more optimization.
Less features. The menu is full of weird things I haven't played with and which I'm kind of not interested in playing with. Maybe reorganising the features would suffice, but it feels like I have a multi-tool where I just use the mini screwdriver.
What do you use from Amethyst? My issue in the past is that each user wanted to use a different feature. Trying to please them all maybe made us please nobody.. 🤔
Yeah, data and battery use are an environmental concern. But the real problem is that Amethyst is reliant on opensats for grants now and that means Amethyst is going to be enshitfied the same way everything else opensats gets involved with gets enshitfied
Maybe move the "feeds" section somewhere else, none of that is important enough to be taking up that much space from the menu. Making that main Manu shorter would make it less overwhelming for people
We are no longer an OpenSats grantee. it ended a couple months ago. Which also means that we don't have any funds for additional development, since the donations are not near enough to cover anybody's time. :(
New feature! You can customise your menu (and bottom bar) to only the features you use! No need to create a simpler client ♥️♥️
A lot of what I use, I set up and forget: - amber auth - tor - relays - profile - qr/camera profile sharing - bookmarks - drafts Things I explored but didn't use eventually: - live streams - scrolling mode shorts (rarely use) - custom feeds My suggestion, for new users, have a limited featureset and introduce a wizard which is nice ux for promoting the other features and enabling them. And then an easy way to turn them off... Its not an easy problem honestly imo. If this is what the average user sees when they log in, I would personally be little scared off. Like a flight passenger seeing the pilots flight controls.
