Another 9/11 story I woke up that morning, put on my uniform, got on my bike, and rode toward the Air Force base. I had no TV or radio, internet at the time. Clueless to the circumstances of the moment. I had been working as a driver with one of the fighter squadrons, and I was on the late shift that week. As I approached the entrance, there was a huge line of cars I had to pass waiting to get onto the base. The guard told me I could go through because I wasn’t in a vehicle.🤷🏼 As I rode toward my squadron, the base was empty. No one was outside working, driving, or moving around. I remember thinking, “That guard messed up. We must be in an exercise or something.” When I reached the squadron, the doors were locked. Someone finally came out and asked, “Why are you riding around the base?” I said, “I don’t know. They let me through the gate. Why—what’s going on?” “There was an attack in New York.” Inside, they had it playing on the TV over and over again. Soon after that, we were locked down and working 24-hour shifts. World Series was postponed a few weeks. It was The Diamodback Vs. Yankees . They invited Luke AFB to unfurl the American flag for the National Anthem, Jewel sang that day. They gave the Airmen tickets to see a hockey game after a rehearsal unfurling. When we came back the stadium was packed. The energy was crazy. We opened the flag, the jet flew over at some point. The crowd began chanting U-S-A for about 2 minutes. I remember looking at the others and we were all a little unsettled by the energy. Surreal is a good word. The flag got rolled up and we ran of the field. Thinking how intense the energy was for the military show. We thought oh yeah we will get to watch the game! We asked and they said they was no room. Yeah ... Fake weird ass patriotism. The official video from that game cut out the chanting. However not of me grinning like a goof when they zoomed into my face.

A story about the boy who cried wolf: He told the village, more than once, that a wolf had come for his sheep. Each time they ran to help, there was no wolf. Then one day, there was. By then, the people had learned not to come running. In the oldest telling, the wolf takes the flock. In some later versions, it takes the boy too. Maybe the point is not only that lying has consequences. It’s that the wolf knows you are fucking up… so stop fucking up so much.

Words are deceptive and cannot express or describe the world as it truly is. Words are powerful. Still Fuckery
